40ft Flat Rack Shipping Container

The 40ft flat rack shipping container has no sidewalls or roof — just a reinforced floor and two end walls — designed to carry oversized or heavy cargo that won't fit through a standard container's doors, such as vehicles, heavy machinery, large industrial parts, piping, construction materials, boats, and lumber. Cargo sits on the open deck and is fixed and lashed down with belts and chains rather than enclosed. It's available in both fixed-end and collapsible configurations, and in new and used condition. On fixed-end units, the end walls stay upright to provide load security for items like pipes. Collapsible units let the end walls fold down flat for easier stacking and more efficient backhaul when the flat rack is empty; flush-folding versions fold the end walls into the frame itself, which is useful for loading oversized machinery straight over the collapsed ends. This size also has gooseneck tunnels at each end and can be fitted with lashing winches and 2-metric-ton lashing belts, plus stanchions for certain types of cargo. Construction is Corten steel crossmembers and end walls with a 45mm heavy-duty floor, and lashing rings rated up to 4,000kg each are built into the side rails, corner posts, and floor for securing cargo. The unit is fully compatible with standard container stacking and interlocking hardware, and units bundle four at a time for intermodal transport. Externally it measures 12,192mm long x 2,438mm wide, standing 2,591mm tall with the end frames erected or folding down to just 648mm when collapsed. Internally, it's 12,064mm between the end panels (11,652mm between the corner posts), 2,374mm wide over the bottom side posts (2,220mm between the corner posts), with 1,959mm of loading height above the floor. Tare weight is 5,100kg, with a maximum payload of 47,400kg — up to 47 tonnes of cargo — and a maximum gross weight of 52,500kg; a concentrated load over the center 2-meter span is rated to 30,000kg. Stacking is rated 8-high at 30,480kg or 5-high at 52,500kg. Forklift pockets are set at 2,050mm centers, 120mm high and 360mm wide, and the floor carries a 50mm camber after pre-loading to account for deck sag under load.
