Twin 1000 Gallon Nh3 Tanks

This unit pairs two 1,000-gallon anhydrous ammonia (NH3) nurse tanks on a shared tandem-axle running gear, built by Arcosa. Each tank is constructed of carbon steel to ASME code and rated up to 250 psi at 125°F. As with all NH3 nurse tanks, every wetted component — valves, fittings, and the tank shell itself — is mild or stainless steel; NH3 service never uses galvanized metals, since ammonia reacts with zinc coatings. The tanks are painted white or another light color to reflect sunlight and limit heat buildup, which helps keep internal pressure in check. Nurse tanks like these are used to move liquid anhydrous ammonia under pressure from a bulk storage facility out to field application equipment for agricultural use. Fill valves, the vapor return valve, the pressure gauge, and the liquid level gauges are all mounted at the top front of the tank, protected by a roll cage, and — per safety code — a tank is never filled beyond 85 percent of capacity to leave room for vapor expansion. A pressure relief valve is standard on each tank and is set to release vapor if internal pressure exceeds 250 psi, closing again once pressure drops back down.
