Propane Gas Tanks ASME & DOT

We carry propane gas tanks certified to both ASME and DOT standards, covering sizes from small portable cylinders up to large stationary storage tanks. DOT-certified tanks are built to travel — used for food trucks, forklifts, grills, and other mobile equipment — while ASME-certified tanks are stationary vessels that, once installed and connected, are not intended to be moved. Across the common sizes: a 420-lb vertical cylinder stands about 4 feet 4-1/2 inches tall with a 30-inch diameter and holds roughly 375 liters of LPG, typically used for water heaters, fireplaces, pool heaters, and other secondary appliances rather than whole-home heating — up to four cylinders can be manifolded together where a 500-gallon tank isn't practical. A 500-gallon tank measures about 3 feet 10 inches tall, 9 feet 10 inches long, and 38 inches in diameter, holding roughly 1,514 liters, and is a common choice for residential and small commercial heating. A 1,000-gallon tank stands about 4 feet 4 inches tall, runs 15 feet 11 inches long, and 41 inches in diameter, holding roughly 3,028 liters, and is generally reserved for higher-volume commercial or agricultural use. Larger commercial tanks are available from 2,000 up to 60,000 gallons. Every propane tank is only ever filled to about 80 percent of its rated capacity, to leave room for the propane to expand, so the true usable volume runs below the tank's nominal size. Regulators are required on every installation to bring tank pressure down to a usable working pressure, and we stock single-stage, two-stage, and twin-stage regulators. Stationary tanks require a minimum 10-foot clearance from buildings and property lines per code.
