Vector 8500 Trailer Refrigeration Units

The Carrier Transicold Vector 8500 is a hybrid diesel-electric trailer refrigeration unit built around Carrier's E-Drive all-electric technology: a diesel engine drives an onboard generator, and that generator powers a fully electric refrigeration and heating system rather than a conventional belt-driven compressor. Because the system has far fewer moving parts than a traditional mechanical unit — no alternator, drive belts, idlers, vibrasorbers, compressor shaft seals, or clutches — maintenance requirements are reduced and uptime improves. The unit's ecoFORWARD technologies deliver fuel savings and meet EPA Tier 4 emissions regulations, and components switch on only when needed rather than running continuously. A built-in electric standby feature lets the unit run on shore power while parked for loading or staging, cutting fuel use, noise, and emissions during that time. The Vector 8500 is available in single- and multi-temperature configurations and runs on the APX control system. At 100°F ambient on high-speed diesel or electric standby operation, cooling capacity is 60,000 BTU/hr (17,585 W) at a 35°F setpoint, 35,000 BTU/hr (10,260 W) at 0°F, and 24,000 BTU/hr (7,035 W) at -20°F, with evaporator airflow of 3,100 cfm (5,270 m³/hr). The unit weighs approximately 1,810 lbs (820 kg) including electric standby; condenser dimensions are 76.4″ x 85.7″ x 22.8″, evaporator dimensions are 66.3″ x 45.2″ x 8.2″, and the body opening is 66.8″ x 46.0″. A remote 50-gallon aluminum fuel tank with mounting brackets adds about 65 lbs, and the battery adds about 50 lbs.
