Clip-On Generator Set

This clip-on generator set is available in both Carrier and Thermo King configurations, giving you a choice of manufacturer for powering a refrigerated container's reefer unit when there's no external power source available — during over-the-road or rail transport, for example. It attaches to the container's chassis using the corner castings and can be connected or removed in a matter of minutes, without any modification to the container itself, and it's suitable for both ISO and DNV 2.7-1 reefer containers. The Carrier version runs a CT4-134DI, 4-cylinder, water-cooled, 2.2-liter direct-injection diesel engine paired with a nominal 15 kW brushless, self-regulated generator, a 12V DC maintenance-free battery, and low-mounted controls in a waterproof control box; it has a 130-gallon fuel tank and weighs approximately 1,675 lb. The Thermo King version uses a TK diesel engine compliant with the 2008 Interim Tier 4 emissions requirements, producing 460/230V, three-phase, 60 Hz power, with a 125-gallon fuel tank, a 12V battery rated at 925 CCA at 0°F, and an SG+ microprocessor controller that handles auto-restart, advanced diagnostics, and automatic engine preheating; it weighs approximately 1,804 lb. Both versions include safety stop controls for low oil pressure and high water temperature, along with preheat, start, run, and off switch positions. Rated output is 15 kW, 18.75 kVA, 460V AC, three-phase, 60 Hz on both brands, and the housing measures approximately 2,324 mm x 706 mm x 1,078 mm (91.5 in x 27.8 in x 42.5 in). A disc-type radial cooling fan with a sealed, large-diameter rear bearing and a vacuum pressure-impregnated rotor keeps the generator running cool, and the on/off switch is manually operated.
