A clip-on genset is a self-contained diesel generator that attaches directly to a refrigerated container's corner castings — using quick-disconnect fasteners or optional header pin mounting — to power the reefer unit independently of grid electricity. We stock Thermo King's SG-3000, SG-3500, and SG-5000 clip-on models, all CSC certified and built for the transport refrigeration industry. The SG-3000 clip-on measures about 2337 x 710 x 1053 mm and weighs approximately 818 kg (1,804 lbs). It outputs 15kW (18.75kVA) at 460V/230V, 3-phase, 60Hz, runs on a 125-gallon (473-liter) diesel tank, and draws from a 12V/925CCA battery. It meets EPA, CARB, and ISO 1496-2 standards and needs a full service only once every 3,000 hours. The SG-3500 is built around a 2.1L, 24.1 hp engine tested to hold steady output between -40°C and 50°C, up to 3,000 meters of altitude. It's EPA Tier 4, NRMM Stage V, and CARB compliant, and its noise-reduction design makes it one of the quieter options in the lineup. The SG-5000, manufactured in the US, sits at the top of the range: lifetime CARB and EPA Tier 4 compliant, with a large-diameter, reinforced alternator, an engine-driven coolant fan, and extra corrosion protection built in. It's rated to power any ISO reefer container and weighs approximately 828 kg in clip-on configuration. Every model runs on Thermo King's SG+ microprocessor controller, which handles automatic pre-heat starting, alarm logging, running-hour and voltage tracking, and auto-restart, with optional remote monitoring.
