The Thermo King SG-3500 is a clip-on diesel genset built for marine and intermodal reefer containers, designed to deliver dependable, independent power with a focus on fuel efficiency and quiet operation. It runs on a 2.1L, eco-governed cast-iron engine rated at 24.1 hp, tested to hold steady performance across a working range of -40°C to 50°C (-40°F to 122°F) at altitudes up to 3,000 meters (10,000 ft), with a duty life tested to roughly 25,000 hours under normal maintenance. Electrical output is 15kW, delivered through a uniquely designed alternator with increased capacity and reduced duty-cycle time. The SG-3500 is EPA Tier 4, GB4, and NRMM Stage V compliant, and carries CARB compliance for units registered before May 31, 2023. It's certified to run on biofuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), renewable diesel, or biodiesel. An electronic governor delivers power only when it's needed, which keeps fuel consumption down — the unit only needs a full service once every 3,000 hours. Controls run through a simplified on-off interface with pre-trip functionality, an automatic pre-heat function for cold starts, and advanced self-check diagnostics. An optional telematics package adds GPS location and geofencing, fuel-level monitoring even while the unit is off, low-fuel alerts, battery voltage monitoring, total run-hour tracking, and engine load reporting. The unit mounts to the container's corner castings and is available in clip-on or undermount configuration. CSC certified, and available in new and used condition.
